Marist-LdM/New York Film Academy Program




Marist College and Scuola Lorenzo de'Medici (LdM) are pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with the New York Film Academy (NYFA) in Florence this summer. We will be offering a variety of short summer programs in filmmaking, journalism, and acting for students of all ages and experience. This program is open to any student seeking an exciting and challenging summer experience doing hands-on communication and filmmaking coursework.

Interested students should apply through the New York Film Academy website. Housing will be facilitated as part of the program for interested students. Students will be enrolled through the Middle States accredited Marist College-LdM branch campus.

ACT104 Acting for Film Four-Week Workshop

Duration: 4 weeks Hours: 150 hours Credits: 4.0

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Students learn the basics of film acting: calibrating performances based upon shot size and angle, hitting marks, emotional and physical continuity, and strength and imagination in acting choices. Students are assigned scenes from produced screenplays, which are then shot with a crew and edited together. In addition, students learn to perform a number of film crew positions, to broaden their knowledge of the duties of everyone on a professional film set.

JOU104: Film Journalism

Duration: 4 weeks Hours: 119.5 hours Credits: 4.0

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Through hands-on, intensive training, students are given an introduction to the basic elements of journalism for the 21st century. They will write, shoot, and edit two short projects of up to two minutes and three minutes in length. This workshop is an ideal introduction for the novice journalist, or for students in journalism programs to receive an introduction to new technologies and digital video skills important for the modern journalist.

FIL 106: Combined Filmmaking and Digital Filmmaking

Duration: 6 weeks Hours: 242.5 hours Credits: 6.0

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This workshop combines introductory principles and concepts specific to both 16-millimeter and digital filmmaking through hands-on, intensive training. Students will study mise-en scene, continuity, music and montage filmmaking. They will then be tasked to make a longer, more challenging narrative film incorporating all of the covered material with added elements of sound. Students will learn to incorporate the fundamental principles of the craft to successfully tell stories with moving images. This workshop is ideal for the beginner filmmaker, who wants to develop the skills necessary to pursue filmmaking in traditional and digital formats.

FIL 104D: Digital Filmmaking

Duration: 4 weeks Hours: 172.5 hours Credits: 4.0

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This workshop explores introductory principles and concepts specific to digital filmmaking through hands-on, intensive training. Students will study mise-en scene, continuity, music and montage, documentary and narrative filmmaking. Students will learn to incorporate the fundamental principles of the craft to successfully tell stories with moving images. This workshop is ideal for the novice or beginner filmmaker, who wants to take the next step in their exploration of digital filmmaking.

FIL 104: Filmmaking

Duration: 4 weeks Hours: 167 hours Credits: 4.0

FIL 101: One Week Digital Filmmaking

Duration: 1 week Hours: 48.5 hours Credits: 1.0

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Through hands-on, intensive training, students are exposed to the basic elements of filmmaking. They will write, shoot, and edit one short project of up to five minutes in length. This workshop is ideal for the novice filmmaker, or for students in film studies programs that do not have a hands-on filmmaking opportunity available to enhance the overall understanding and appreciation of what it takes to make a film.
