LdM/NCRC International Conflict Transformation Certificate Program
Today more than ever, there is a great need for students to learn about enlightened and innovative ways to deal with conflicts, whether small or large, interpersonal or international. Starting in Spring 2011, the LdM Florence campus offers a one-semester "Certificate in International Conflict Transformation."
The Certificate Program, subtitled "Preventing, Managing, and Resolving Conflicts," is comprised of five core courses and one language course. These courses, leading to a Certificate of Completion, are offered in collaboration between LdM Florence, in conjunction with the University of Florence Department of Peace Studies, and The National Conflict Resolution Center (NCRC) based in San Diego.
LdM's long-standing partnership with the University of Florence includes the Department of Peace Studies and Social Sciences. LdM's own Department of Peace Studies offers six courses, two of which form part of the new Certificate. LdM instructors bring awareness of special Italian contributions to Peace Studies, as well as their own international activities. The courses underpin the applications for Conflict Resolution in terms of theories, techniques, and modern international political and social contexts.
The National Conflict Resolution Center has become a national and international voice in conflict resolution after more than 25 years of successfully resolving conflicts through mediation and negotiation. NCRC has facilitated the resolution of conflicts in businesses, non-profits, government bodies, communities, and families. This new Certificate includes two intensive courses taught by NCRC staff in Florence.
Based on practical experience, these courses - case-based and hands-on --go beyond conflict theory to train students in the practical skills people need to manage a wide range of conflicts in the real world.
The Certificate now offers an exciting new opportunity for students to acquire important professional skills in the stimulating, intercultural setting of LdM Florence.
