Description:The Rome sketchbook course is based on outdoor drawing among the monuments and ruins of Rome. Students will learn techniques for capturing detail and atmosphere with pencil and watercolor sketches, which can then be used as a reference to create more complex paintings in the studio. This process was followed by landscape painters such as Corot and Turner, who left a large body of travel sketchbooks. Many landscape painters took the Grand Tour around Italy, a principal part of which was a prolonged stay in Rome. The course will include a study of the various sketching techniques of 18th and 19th century painters. The course is recommended for studio art students with drawing experience at an intermediate level.
Prerequisites:PDM 130 Principles of Drawing and Composition or equivalent
