Description:This course explores the fascinating relationship between the city of Venice and the world of film over many years and in different genres. The course examines not only the multiple ways in which Venice has been represented in film but also how the city's own culture and identity have been shaped, changed and challenged by these representations. The course will explore the modalities used to build a common stereotype based on images taken from popular movies. It will try to understand if it is possible for a city to find its identity thanks to cinema. The final part of the course will explore the Venetian Festival of Cinema, focusing in particular on its recent celebration of Asian movies, following the historic links which have always existed between Venice and the East.
