Description:This program aims to give students a full immersion in Italian culture. Classes meet four hours a day Monday through Friday and are held in Italian. Each class consists of an average of 8 students (max. 12 students). The course is offered in seven levels: Absolute Beginner, Intermediate 1, 2 and 3, Advanced 1, 2 and 3. NOTE: during an academic semester four of the seven levels will be covered on condition that students pass monthly exams, administered on the last Friday of each month. In order to advance to the next level, students must receive a grade of "C" or higher on the exam. This program offers students the possibility to practice the four main language skills through a wide range of activities every day. During classes students will develop communication strategies, develop and use vocabulary, improve listening skills, work on grammar, and develop reading and writing skills. Speaking skills are practiced daily through varied teaching techniques (dramatization, role-play, oral presentations, open discussions). Ample time is also dedicated to activities whose objective is to deepen knowledge of Italian society and culture: films, TV shows, radio broadcasts, art history tours, readings and discussions of works of literature and articles from representative magazines and newspapers in Italy. This course is for absolute beginner students who have never studied Italian before: it is the first of seven levels and its aim is to give the basis of the language, allowing students to face the most common everyday situations by expressing themselves in the present and in the past tense. Grammar: Definite and indefinite articles, noun-adjective agreement, regular present tense, to have, to be, there is-there are, numbers. Present tense: main irregular verbs and modal verbs, prepositions and verbs of motion, close to - far from . Present perfect, most common irregular past participles, possessives (adjectives and pronouns). Direct pronouns, the verb piacere. Bene, buono. Interrogative pronouns. Superlative. Impersonal si.
