3rd Annual "Art Is in the Streets" Exhibition

As an international school, Scuola Lorenzo de' Medici continually seeks to nurture a deep respect for different cultures and nationalities. Two years ago the School launched an art competition that not only involved its art and design students, but also local businesses of various cultural traditions in the San Lorenzo area and Florentine craftsmen. By collaborating with the people who live and work in this part of Florence, our students helped to promote a sense of common citizenship and unity. The event was a celebration of our students' artistic achievements, of our cultural diversity and of the historic San Lorenzo area. Once again, this year's edition of this event LdM aims to involve local businesses and stores which will host student work. As such, the selected works of art and design will be displayed along via Faenza as well as inside the shops.

This event is made possible by Scuola Lorenzo de' Medici in collaboration with Marist College, the DAMS department of the University of Florence and with the patronage of the Province of Florence and of the Florence Town Council-Quartiere 1. It furthermore involves the participation of students from Istituto d'Arte di Porta Romana, California State University, and Lorenzo de' Medici. Prizes will be awarded to those students who bring about beauty, unity and cultural enrichment to the city through their works of art. It is well known that art is a form of direct communication that breaks down barriers and can be used as a means for spreading peace and intercultural education by defeating prejudice and bringing people closer together. As you walk through the exhibition, you will see original works of art and design from the following categories: graphic design, interior design, jewelry design, photography, drawing/painting, printmaking and mosaics/ceramics/sculpture. These works will be judged by a committee of professional critics and journalists who will award six prizes, one for each category.
